Malaysia FA Cup finalists Kelantan tamed their neighbours Terengganu with a 4-0 bashing at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu yesterday.
Kelantan started the match with Fakhri and Dickson Nwakaeme upfront while the Turtles, lined up with the same squad that crushed the Red Warriors during their last meeting, only missing Effa Owona.
Both teams started the game playing high-tempo football. However, it was Badhri Radzi who kicked off the goal feast with a strike in the 12th minute. Shakir recovered ball in the middle of the park before making a quick pass to Piya who skipped past several Terengganu defenders before taking a wonderful lob-shot, stunning Sharmiza between the posts.
Terengganu then created several chances through Ismail Faruqi and Ashaari Shamsudin but all their opportunities were wasted.
They had a golden chance to equalise when G. Puaneswaran received a decent ball from the flanks, but he failed to make it count.
After the break, Kelantan continued their positive attitude. Nwakaeme doubled the Red Warriors’ lead when Faiz Subri’s quick run caused trouble for the Terengganu defence. The Nigerian calmly controlled the ball before placing it in the far corner beating Sharmiza for the second time.
The visitors kept pressing for another goal. A quick goalkick by Khairul Fahmi on the 50-minute mark found Farhan’s feet. He linked up well with Nwakaeme once again, giving his side a three-goal lead.
Just five minutes later, the Kelantan skipper sent a lovely through ball for Faiz Subri to make it 4-0 to the Red Warriors. Faiz made a quick run and slammed a powerful shot past Sharmiza.
Towards the end of the match, Terengganu had a glances of a consolation goal but national custodian Fahmi was in superb form to deny the Turtles.
Bojan Hodak’s forces brought home three valuable points but they are still lying in sixth place in the league.
They will face Pahang next week while Terengganu will travel to Paroi to take on ATM.
